Healthy Eating for Summer Travel
Players competing in the 2024 Memorial Health Championship presented by LRS visited the Memorial Wellness Center this week to learn tips to make healthier choices on the road.
“Life on the road can be a barrier to a healthy routine,” said Nicole Florence, MD, and medical director for the Memorial Wellness Center. “It’s important to set yourself up for success with a consistent sleep routine, healthy food choices and predictable down time with opportunities to check in with family and friends.”
While most of us are not spending the summer competing with some of the nation’s top golfers, these tips are just as useful for family vacations and road trips:
- Stop at a grocery store instead of the gas station for snacks.
- Choose precut fruit or veggies. Add hummus or yogurt for dipping.
- Add protein to your snack choices: hard-boiled eggs, protein bars, meat sticks, nuts, roasted chickpeas, air-popped pea pods, cheese sticks.
- Go for green tea instead of soda.
