Five “Pop the Question” Fails that Could Land You in the Emergency Room
‘Tis the season to get engaged! Eight of the most popular days to pop the question happen between the Christmas holiday season and Valentine’s Day. But if you are not careful, the big reveal may result in a trip to the emergency room. Reference the five engagement fails below:
Fired up: Burned by romantic lighting
Surrounding your engagement location with candlelight is a romantic idea, but may not be practical indoors. At the very least, you risk setting off fire alarms; at most, you could cause a fire or burn yourself or future spouse. Opt for battery-operated lighting for indoor engagements.
Don’t let love bleed: Accidental injury in the kitchen
Preparing a romantic engagement dinner is a great way to show your loved one you care, but be careful with knives, sharp utensils and hot pots and pans as you prepare. Don’t let your pre-engagement jitters result in an injury before you even pop the question.
A sweet treat: Hiding the ring in food
Asking your loved one to marry you with a ring hidden in a dessert or drink may seem like a sweet surprise, but you risk them swallowing or choking on the ring. Avoid this hidden treasure.
Ice Ice Baby: Falls, sprains and fractures.
Be careful not to face plant when you or your loved one jumps for joy after the big question. Make sure the only ice making them gasp is the ice you put on their hand and not the ice underfoot.
Stuck on you: The ring is too small
Did you know that ring-related emergency visits are a recurring issue at many hospitals? The ring is forced onto the finger and gets stuck or the finger swells after the ring is in place. This is so common that the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation hosts a skills training to help clinicians and first responders learn how to safely remove those circles of joy. Make sure you pick a size that fits.
