Featured Recipe: Low-Sugar Chocolate Tart Filling

Ingredients

  • 8 oz bittersweet chocolate chips (60% cacao)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 TB cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Cool whip and crushed candy for garnish
  • 9 inch pie crust – graham cracker or preferred pie crush

Instructions

  1. Place chocolate chips in heat safe bowl. Save for next steps.
  2. Bring milk and cornstarch to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir constantly while cooking mixture. Continue cooking until mixture is thick like honey and slightly frothy.
  3. Pour milk and cornstarch mixture over chocolate. Let stand for 1 minute without stirring.
  4. Add peppermint extract and salt to chocolate mixture. Stir to combine.

  6. Let mixture come to room temperature. Pour into crust pan.
  7. Chill until set, about 4 hours.
  8. Garnish with whipped topping and crushed candy canes prior to serving+.
