Life after COVID-19 Vaccination: Best Practices
Vaccination against COVID-19 is a welcome and important tool in the fight against the pandemic, but those who have been vaccinated need to continue to be vigilant about social distance, mask usage and handwashing for now.
“Vaccination trains your immune system to fight the virus if you are exposed,” said Raj Govindaiah, MD, chief medical officer for Memorial Health System. “However, we do not yet know if vaccinated individuals can still spread the virus. Because that research is ongoing, it’s essential to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.”
To protect yourself and others, follow these recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
- Wear a mask over your nose and mouth.
- Stay at least six feet away from others.
- Avoid crowds.
- Avoid poorly ventilated spaces.
- Wash your hands often.
