Resources to Quit Smoking
Smoking kills more than 480,000 Americans each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For many, the “why” to quit is clear, but the “how” is more challenging. If you live in central Illinois, Memorial Health System offers a variety of programs to help you kick the habit.
• Memorial Physician Services: Your primary care physician is often the first step in a treatment plan. Ask them how you can get started.
• Memorial Medical Center Inpatient Services: If you are coming in for a surgery or have an inpatient hospital stay, you won’t be on your own when it comes to managing the cravings.
• Memorial Behavioral Health Integrated Wellness: Integrated Wellness is a program designed to help individuals with behavioral health conditions improve their physical health. One of the support groups offered through the programs is “Smoke-Free Lifestyle.” Wellness coaches support you on your journey.
• Memorial Weight Loss & Wellness Center: As part of counseling services, the center offers a 10-week class focused on smoking cessation. This series includes support from licensed clinical social workers, support groups and medical input on possible pharmacotherapy to help you quit. Call 217-788-3948 for more information.
Also, don’t let the stigma about smoking keep you from pursuing a lung cancer screening. It could save your life.
