Should You Choose Memorial’s Emergency, ExpressCare or Primary Care?
When you’re injured or ill, you may be unsure about where to turn for care. Memorial has you covered with our Emergency Department, four convenient ExpressCare locations and our network of 9 primary care physician clinics.
Primary Care
Primary care physicians’ offices are often the first stop for medical treatment. A doctor or mid-level provider can treat everyday illnesses like strep throat, the flu and minor injuries. ExpressCare
If your primary care provider is not available and your symptoms don’t call for a trip to the Emergency Department, visit one of three Memorial ExpressCare locations in Springfield. Illnesses treated at ExpressCare include:
- Fever
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Coughs and Colds
- Ear Pain
- Minor Sprains & Strains
- Minor Burns and Cuts
- Infections and Rashes
- Fractures (not open)
- General Wounds

Wait times indicate how many people are currently in line to be seen at each of the three Memorial ExpressCare locations (Koke Mill, North Dirksen or South Sixth) and the length of the longest wait to begin treatment.
Emergency Department
Patients suffering from life-threatening conditions should call 911 or immediately go to the Memorial Medical Center Emergency Department, located at corner of Dodge and Rutledge Streets in Springfield. Examples of emergencies include:
- Inability to breathe
- Chest pain
- Seizures
- Extensive wounds and/or bleeding
- Loss of consciousness
- Poisoning
- Severe burns
Memorial’s Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
