Looking for a Rewarding Experience? Volunteer!

Hospital volunteers greet visitors with a smile, transport patients, deliver flowers or mail, guide visitors to appointments and so much more. Highly appreciated by hospital staff, volunteers help supply that extra bit of care, compassion and assistance that make a difference each day in the lives of patients and their families.

“We are so thankful for our volunteer team at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital,” said Pam Martin, head of the Jacksonville Memorial Foundation and Volunteers. “They always bring the smiles, and they help out wherever we need them!”

Jacksonville Memorial Hospital (JMH) hopes to increase the ranks of their volunteers in 2024. Phil Sallee of Pleasant Plains has volunteered at JMH for six years now. He retired as a biologist from the Illinois State Police Crime Lab and volunteers as a messenger for the Pain Clinic.

“I love the opportunity to do something useful,” he said. “My favorite part is interacting with staff.”

John Cox is retired from the U.S. Air Force and MacMurray College where he taught social work. At JMH, he works the Emergency Department door, greeting people and providing a calm presence as well as a wheelchair when necessary.

“I feel privileged to be able to volunteer at JMH,” John said. “Their reputation as a small community hospital is excellent, and I feel honored to be a part of their organization. The opportunity to work as a team with volunteers and hospital staff helping patients and visitors is richly rewarding! Helping those in need is a great way to give back to our community.”
